Lapis Lazuli

Lapis is a rock and not a mineral because it is made up of a combination of minerals, usually lazurite, calcite and pyrite. It has been used as far back as 5000 bc and was very popular with Egyptian pharoahs. Two common treatments for lapis stone are dying and resin impregnation. Lapis lazuli can be damaged easily so store your lapis with care and only use a clean dry cloth to clean it as water can damage the coating.
