Magnesite

Magnesite is magnesium carbonate and usually occcurs as veins in magnesium rich rocks. The magnesite jewelry we offer has been dyed pink but we have also seen it in blue and green colors. It is naturally a white color with a dull luster. On the Mohs Scale it has a hardness of 3.5 to 5. Magnesite has several commerical applications: slag former in steel industry, catalyst & filler in the production of synthetic rubber and in magnesium chemicals and fertilizers. It's hard to believe that something with such intense industrial uses could also be used to make jewelry.
