
Turquoise
Turquoise is a mineral that has been used for thousands of years in jewelry making. The commonly known name "turquoise" started being used around the 16th century. Turquoise is a fragile stone with a hardness of 5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. Using this scale a fingernail has a hardness of 2.5 and a diamond has a hardness of 10. Color can range from light blue to green. The oldest turquoise mines are in Iran and the Sinai Peninsula.
